Grand Theft in Florida
Grand theft (§812.014) is theft of property valued at $750 or more. Florida classifies theft by value into five tiers, from second-degree misdemeanor to first-degree felony. Certain items trigger grand theft regardless of value.
Theft Classification
- Under $10: Petit theft 2nd degree (misdemeanor)
- $10-$749: Petit theft 1st degree (misdemeanor)
- $750-$1,999: Grand theft 3rd degree (up to 5 years)
- $1,000-$99,999: Grand theft 2nd degree (up to 15 years)
- $10,000+: Grand theft 1st degree (up to 30 years)
