Rent Abatement

Definition: A reduction or elimination of rent payments for a specified period, typically granted by a landlord as a lease incentive, or ordered by a court when the tenant's use of the premises is substantially impaired by the landlord's breach of the lease.

Rent Abatement

Rent abatement: temporary reduction or elimination of rent when premises are unusable. FL residential: Section 83.56 (habitability failures; written notice required). Commercial: per lease terms (casualty, construction, service failure). Also a concession: free rent to attract tenants. Calculation: proportional to diminished use or full if completely unusable. Document condition thoroughly.
