FL Youthful Offender Act

FL Youthful Offender Act (Section 958.04): alternative sentencing for under-21, non-life felony. Maximum: 6 years (even if offense carries longer). Purpose: separate from adults, education, vocational, and rehabilitation. Eligibility: under 21, non-capital/non-life/non-first-degree-life, court discretion. Benefits: reduced sentence, separate housing, programming (GED, vocational, counseling), and early release. Drawback: still a felony conviction on record. State Attorney may oppose.
